Artificial Anxieties
New technologies take people’s jobs. That’s the point. By definition, technologies are systems, methods, thoughts, and tools that empower fewer people to accomplish more in less time while expending less energy, exploiting fewer subordinates, and relying less on others’ whims. If something doesn’t check these boxes, then it probably isn’t technology. Possibly, it’s a distraction. At best, perhaps, it is a game. Regardless, the displacement of labor produced by new technologies is no bug. It’s a feature. And it’s nothing new.
